John Cowper Powys
The War and Culture (Barnes & Noble Digital Library) [EPUB ebook]

Stöd

This 1914 book was written for an American readership in response to a polemic by Professor Münsterberg defending the German view of the war. Here, Powys contrasts the idea of the ’omnipotent and irresistible State-machine’ of the Germans to the Allies’ aim of protecting ’the individual against the State.’

Om författaren

John Cowper Powys (1872-1963) was a prolific British novelist and critic.  He is best known today for the novels Wolf Solent (1929), A Glastonbury Romance (1932), and Owen Glendower (1940), as well as his Autobiography (1934).  An idiosyncratic writer, Powys drew on strains of Romanticism and the dour determinism of Hardy, adding a mysticism all his own.
