Two men are brutally murdered by strangers in an alley in medieval London on a cold night in November 1275. A royal nuncio, Simon Lowys, is sent to discover how the murders are connected to a coven of witches, the Daughters of the Shadows. As he pursues the coven, a mysterious woman with long red hair and piercing dark eyes appears at his every turn.
Simon uncovers a conspiracy linked to the assassination of King Edward I’s cousin five years before and revenge for the death of Simon de Montfort at the battle of Evesham.
Who is the mysterious red-haired woman? Is she a witch or saviour, and can the threat posed by the Daughters of the Shadows to the lives of King Edward and Queen Eleanor be eliminated in time? The threads that tie the past and the present together must be unravelled in a race to save the Queen and her family.
Murder, abduction and assassination set in and around medieval St Albans and its Benedictine Abbey, Shadows on the Queen, is inspired by actual events.
