Meryl Shriver-Rice, Ph.D., director of environment, culture and media and of the Sci Comm Incubator at the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy at the University of Miami. She is a digital anthropologist and environmental archaeologist. Dr Shriver-Rice is founding co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Environmental Media and director of the Environmental Media Lab. She is also principal investigator of the Coastal Heritage at Risk Task Force (CHART Project), building regional partnerships to recognize the vulnerabilities of community heritage assets to the impacts of climate change and seek to inform local communities of best practices when undertaking steps to preserve and protect historic and archaeological sites. She has published in World Archaeology, The Italianist and Environmental Communication. Her research interests include archaeobotany, Indigenous studies, community-based participatory research (CBPR), ethnobiology, non-traditional forms of environmental media advocacy, digital wokewashing, digital decolonizing practices by museums and heritage sites and the role of environmental archaeology in contemporary conservation.
