Hootie! [EPUB ebook]
How the Blowfish Put Pop Back Into Pop Rock

Stöd

When college pals Darius Rucker and Mark Bryan landed their first professional gig at a chicken-wings joint across from their University of South Carolina dorm in 1985, they had no idea where that musical adventure would lead. Ten years later, with fellow USC alums Dean Felber and Jim Sonefeld, they would be the Grammy award-winning band Hootie and The Blowfish, one of America’s most popular gruops and one of the most unlikely success stories of the 1990s.

This book captures a band that seemed completely out of time and place amidst the swirling, schizophrenic rock of the ’90s. But witht their infectious blend of pop and rhythm and blues, the Blowfish struck a chord with millions of listeners who were ready for an alternative to alternative rock.

From frat parties to major U.S. tours, author Mike Miller takes the reader not only on the road and through the years with the band, but also with many other pop bands of the day such as R.E.M., U2, and The d B’s, as well as hundreds of other lesser known groups. What emerges is a jam-packed ride into American’s pop-rock culture of the 1980s and ’90s.

Om författaren

A year after receiving a master’s degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina in 1986, Mike Miller began writing about pop music for The State newspaper in Columbia. Miller watched and reported as local bands worked hard to establish a music scene in the capital city. His work has appeared in the Atlanta Constitution, Detroit Free Press, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Billboard magazine. He is a native South Carolinian who was born in Columbia, and like a lot of rock critics, he’s a lousy electric guitar player.
