One out of every two people in the U.S. will get cancer in their lifetime. Being a type A personality, Lauren sat down to write a highly informative yet personable book to help others navigate their diagnosis, to try to give them back a little bit of power and be able to advocate for themselves. She talks about all the things she wishes she’d known about what patients go through after receiving a cancer diagnosis. She provides tips for every step of the process, such as navigating doctor’s appointments, chemo, surgeries, radiation, grants, caretakers and support systems, as well as the process as a whole. She hopes telling the story of her own journey can help others get through this difficult time in their lives.
About the author
At the age of 34, Lauren Candies Tarpley was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. Living as an AYA (adolescent and young adult) cancer patient, Lauren thought it was important to let others know about the good, the bad, and the ugly. She lives in her hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, with her husband, their two-year-old son and her 16-year-old Min Pin. She is thankful her mom, dad, younger sister, and in-laws have been able to help her through her journey.
