Human societies live and breathe through their myths. A myth is not a simple story; it is the complex social reasoning of a people, a way of making sense of the world. Burton L. Mack is John Wesley Professor Emeritus in Early Christianity at the Claremont School of Theology. He is the author of several books of outstanding quality, including The Lost Gospel (1993) and Who Wrote the New Testament (1995).
