Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, 1942 bei Magdeburg geboren, ist emeritierte Direktorin am Max-Planck-Institut für Entwicklungsbiologie in Tübingen und seit 2013 Kanzlerin des Ordens Pour le Mérite. Für ihre Entdeckungen von Genen, die die Entwicklung von Tier und Mensch steuern, sowie den Nachweis von gestaltbildenden Gradienten im Fliegenembryo hat sie zahlreiche Auszeichnungen erhalten, darunter 1995 den Nobelpreis.
