David Herbert Lawrance (1885-1930) nació en Eastwood (Gran Bretaña) en el seno de una familia minera. Fue profesor en Nottingham University College, y junto a su esposa, Frieda Weekly, vivió en Italia, Sri Lanka, Australia, Nuevo México y México. Tras su regreso a Europa publicó su obra más conocida; El amante de Lady Chatterley. Su producción artística es diversa, abarca géneros como el ensayo, la novela, el teatro, la poesía, la pintura, la traducción, libros de viaje y críticas literarias.
