David Präkel nasceu e estudou na Inglaterra. Após estudar Psicologia na Universidade de Manchester, estabeleceu uma carreira variada e com êxito na área do jornalismo fotográfico e na docência. Lecionou a disciplina para diversos níveis em universidades, faculdades, escolas e no prestigioso Kodak Imaging Training Centre em Harrow, Londres. Atualmente ministra suas próprias oficinas em Northumberland (Centre of Britain PhotoWorkshops Partnership). Seus famosos livros sobre composição fotográfica, iluminação e fotografia em preto e branco são ideais para aqueles que desejam adentrar na área.
