Dzemal Sokolovic is the founder and director of the Institute for Strengthening Democracy in Bosnia, Konjic, B&H. Before the war in Bosnia he was professor at the University of Sarajevo, Department of Sociology. In the course of the war he left Sarajevo and Bosnia. From 1993-1994, he taught and researched at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, University of Heidelberg, Germany, and University of Graz, Austria. He is the author of several books and numerous articles published in French, German, English, Hungarian, Italian, Macedonian, Norwegian, and Bosnian (Croatian, Serbian). Latest books: “Nacija protiv Naroda” (Nation vs. People), “Reconstructing Multiethnic Societies” (ed. with Florian Bieber), “The Balkans: Searching for Solutions” (ed. with Stein Kuhnle). He is currently working on the project “Researching the Good in Bosnia and Prospects for Reconciliation”, on the basis of which he made a documentary “And there was light…”. He is also the main organizer of the International Seminar “Democracy and Human Rights in Multi-ethnic Societies”, in Konjic, BiH.Before the war he was the Reformist party candidate for Bosnia”s Presidency.More about the author may be found at rokkan.uib.no/bihdemocracy/
