Dr. Guido Kirsten leitet seit Oktober 2018 das Forschungsprojekt “Filmische Diskurse des Mangels: Zur Darstellung von Prekarität und Exklusion im europäischen Spiel- und Dokumentarfilm” an der Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF (Potsdam) im Emmy Noether-Programm der DFG. Zuvor forschte und lehrte er an Universitäten in Zürich (2009–2014) und Stockholm (2015–2018) und vertrat eine Professur in Mainz (2017). Er ist Autor der Monografie Filmischer Realismus (Marburg: Schüren, 2013) und Herausgeber unter anderem des Sammelbands Christian Metz and the Codes of Cinema (Amsterdam University Press, 2018; mit Margrit Tröhler), der filmtheoretischen Schriften von Étienne Souriau, Das filmische Universum (Paderborn: Fink, 2020), einer Einführung in die Klassische Filmtheorie (Mainz: Ventil, 2021, mit Chris Tedjasukmana) sowie Mitherausgeber der film- und fernsehwissenschaftlichen Zeitschrift Montage AV.
