He was born on March 5, 1853, in Wilmington, Delaware, and later in life, he pursued art at the Art Students League of New York and then at the Cooper Union. His version of ‘The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood of Great Renown in Nottinghamshire’ was first published in 1883 and became an instant classic, widely acclaimed for its vivid portrayal of the legendary outlaw and his band of Merry Men.
