Intriguing, thought-provoking and involving, Lia Steinson’s book Letters from India invites the reader to discover India and Sri Lanka as a traveller, not a tourist - seeing beneath the surface to the fascination of everyday lives in exotic places.
It is Lia’s own story and one of personal realisation and transformation. It is a love story, too, and one that reveals her pleasure in the deep connections she shares with people; their delightful idiosyncrasies, their pain and their joy.
Letters from India was written over a two year period of travel with her partner, Ray, and is based on Lia’s letters to her assistant, Nicky (she intented sending them out as newsletters to people on her mailing list in connection with her work as a Life Counsellor). They were not written for publication, but the response from recipients was full of acclaim and delight at reading words that brought her travels vividly alive and delivered a few happy hours of travelling to their own imaginations.
‘Letters from India’ is appealing, beautifully written and presented, and calls the attention immediately.
‘Lia’s story draws you in completely; this is a page-turner with tons of heart’
Michael Warwick, teacher and therapist
‘I was transported on a magical journey to such a different world, tasting every step of the way’ Jan Harrison, social worker
