Chiang Kai-shek’s manuscripts collected in Autocriticism are at his age of 26 to 45 years old.During this period, Chiang Kai-shek followed with Sun Yat-sen to throw himself into the Revolution of 1911, opposed the autocratic rule of Qing Government, opposed Yuan Shih-kai’s restoration of monarchy, opposed Chen Jiongming’s mutiny, established the Huangpu Military Academy, led northern expedition, from uniting the Communist Party to "purging within the political party" to anti-communist, established Nanking National Government, thereafter, conquered warlords, gained the victories to Li Zongren, Feng Yuxiang, Tang Shengzhi, Yan Xishan and other local strength groups.This is an important period that Chiang Kai-shek commenced an undertaking to leap to the center for leadership, and is also an important period of the history of the Republic of China.Autocriticism collects part important manuscripts of Chiang Kai-shek during this period, and it is naturally an important material for the study of the history of the Republic of China and the personal history of Chiang Kai-shek.However, it should be noted that, the compilation of historical documents is often restricted by the time and environment, in Chiang Kai-shek’s early years, there are a number of left-leaning procommunist and pro-soviet speeches, which can be seen on the pamphlets like Principal Chiang’s Lectures published in the period of the Huangpua Military Academy, these are not contained in Autocriticism.This book includes 318 articles of Mr. Chiang’s early years, I have looked over, Mr. Chiang signed the title in person, and it was published by Shanghai Zhonghua Book Company in 1931.It is said that it was not for sale at that time, and it was very rare; after 1949, Taiwan ever photoprinted, but it was still very rare, and until now it is very difficult to see.In addition, there are more than 100 articles, not contained in Pre-president Mr. Chiang’s Thoughts and Speeches Collection edited by Qin Xiaoyi, there also are more than 70 articles in Speeches Collection listed titles but marked "lost manuscript", but in fact they can be found in Autocriticism, Qin Xiaoyi hided them on purpose and did not want to show people; those have been included also have many different characters.Therefore, in order to adapt to the increasingly developing need of the research on Chiang Kai-shek and the history of the Republic of China at home and abroad, officially and publicly publishing Autocriticism should be seasonable and necessary action.-Yang Tianshi
