Think of an animal that is killed by the millions each year! Think of an animal that is killed for profit! Think of an animal that is not even safe in National Parks! Think of Australia’s National Emblem! The Red Sands of Hattah is a true but dramatized account of how it has come to be that kangaroos are even killed enmasse within National Parks.

Peter Preuss has been an active environmentalist since the 1970s. He was President of the Australian Wildlife Protection Council during much of the 1980s and early 90s while campaigning to stop the mass killing of kangaroos in Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. Peter has written a great deal about this issue in textbooks and academic papers but always felt he was preaching to the converted or to the unconvertable. Consequently, he has written a fictional novel about this issue which he hopes will reach a wider audience by providing thought provoking information in an entertaining, easier to read genre. Peter has dedicated this project to the many interesting characters that were, and in many cases still are, involved in the protection of Australia’s unique native wildlife.
