Philip Larkin (1922-1985) estudió en Oxford. Su primer volumen de poesía, “El engaño” (1955), hizo que se reconociera su importancia como escritor al denunciar el entusiasmo político de la década de 1930 y los excesos emocionales de la poesía de la década de 1940. Otras obras destacables son “El barco del norte” (1945), una colección de poemas en la línea de W. B. Yeats, “Altos ventanales” (1974), donde refleja su preocupación por la muerte, y “Las bodas de Pentecostés” (1964). Sus novelas “Jill” (1946) y “Una chica en invierno” (1947) demuestran su sensibilidad y versatilidad en prosa.
