Jojoba, written by Anthony Amiewalan, is a coming-of-age story about overcoming life’s setbacks and redefining success. This memoir is a written account that captures seven years of the author’s life, beginning in the fall of 2004 and ending in the summer of 2011. It follows a twenty-something queer Black man as he comes to terms with his sexuality and tackles cultural issues that come with being a first-generation Nigerian American. In addition to internal strife, the author explores the complexity of learning to embrace romantic love and building lasting friendships with gay men that translate into personal growth.
