In A Path Back to Life Dr. Steven Sommer brings together an effective ME/CFS treatment plan he calls Micro Rehab.
Underpinning this is growing self-awareness (mindfulness) that can be applied to pacing and individualised Rehab sessions. This plan involves building a solid base by; garnering social support; maximising quality sleep; low GI nutrition; and an emphasis on mind-body strategies that he refers to as the ‘Rest/Activity Dance’ and ‘Defusing the Loop.’
Clear instructions allow the spectre of Post Exertional Malaise (PEM) to be avoided utilising an approach he refers to as ‘Micro-Rehab.’ It turns the frustration that so many with this disease experience as a negative into a guiding light. The exquisite sensitivity that people experience with this illness becomes their greatest ally allowing for safe reconditioning that liberates energy and builds stamina. This means whilst not necessarily cured, the person with ME/CFS will be able to participate much more in life.
