It’s Hard Not to Stare is the second book unpacking Street Level’s children’s Compassion Series. The material encourages children to look at their world through the lens of compassion and understanding, rather than assumption, judgment or fear. Tim believes this approach will impact the way we care for, and befriend, people in our communities and beyond, and that when we nurture compassion in a child in one area of life, the potential is greater that this goodness will spill over into all other areas. Tim Huff addresses issues related to disabilities in this book, as he did homelessness in the first of the series, applying the same tender and truthful prose, along with bright and courageous child-friendly illustrations, which have been heightened by the insights and wisdom of his professional peers, educators, moms and dads.

The Honourable David C Onley is a Canadian former journalist who served as the 28th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 2007 until 2014. His seven-year term makes him the longest serving Lieutenant Governor of Ontario since Albert Edward Matthews and the province’s second longest serving viceroy since Confederation. As the province’s first Lieutenant Governor with a disability, Onley said he would use his vice-regal position to help remove physical barriers to Ontario’s 1.5 million people with disabilities, as well as focus on other issues affecting the disabled, including obstacles to employment and housing. Prior to his viceregal appointment, Onley was a television journalist. He worked primarily for Citytv as a weather reporter, before moving on to cover science and technology stories. Later on, he worked with the 24-hour news station Cable Pulse 24 as a news anchor and host of a weekly technology series. A published author, he was founding president of the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Canada. He is married to Ruth Ann Onley, a Christian music performer, author and writer.
