In 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed, Common Sense became a national sensation, and has remained an important part of American history.

Thomas Paine (1737-1809) was an English and American political activist and theorist. He is the author of Common Sense, the most influential pamphlet at the start of the American Revolution.
