The grouse season has begun, and Lord Peter Wimsey’s brother, the Duke of Denver, has descended upon the Wimsey family retreat in rustic Riddlesdale village with a small hunting party. Captain Denis Cathcart, Wimsey’s soon-to-be brother-in-law, is found shot dead at the door of the lodge’s conservatory, and the accused murderer is Gerald, the Duke of Denver.
