Amidst her numerous contributions, she is remembered for her involvement in the early kindergarten movement in the United States, and her establishment of the first English-language kindergarten in 1860. Her scholarly pursuits extended beyond education, encapsulated in her publication of “Sarah Winnemucca”s Practical Solution of the Indian Problem” (1884), a notable work that amplified the voice of Sarah Winnemucca, a Native American activist from the Paiute tribe.
