Although America has been preoccupied with wars against global terrorism since the end of the Cold War, China’s growing powers and North Korea’s sage of nuclear weapon programs have been the main issues in East Asia. Japan responds to these two developments by building up missile defense and passing legislation which enables her to cope with emergencies. And conservatives have been a main driving force for more robust Japan’s defense and foreign policy.
