This book contains the most recent results in the area of strongly inhomogeneous composite structures, including layered materials as well as continua with microstructure. This collection of papers mainly arises from the Euromech Colloquium No. 626 on “Mechanics of High-Contrast Elastic Composites”. Focus is set on the peculiar mechanical behaviour caused by adjoining widely different structural elements (high contrast) in terms of material and/or geometrical properties.

This was presented, for example, in the description of ASM 153. In red three misprints and one actual improvement. Please make the necessary changes. If it is possible add also the blue part (see ASM 155). It will be nice if you unify this part for Volums 153, 185, 186, and 188. Danila Prikazchikov has received his Ph.D. from the University of Salford, UK, in 2004. After working for several years as Associate Professor at Bauman State Technical University, Moscow, he moved to Keele University, UK, in 2013, where he is currently Reader in Applied Mathematics. He has co-authored over 65 publications, including a substantial volume in “Advances in Applied Mechanics”. The awards and honours of Dr Prikazchikov include two Russian Presidential Fellowships for Young Scientists, along with visiting positions at City University of Hong-Kong, Anadolu University, Turkey, and Visiting Professorship at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. His research interests lie in the area of solid and structural mechanics, including multi-scale modelling, nano- and metamaterials, waves and vibrations, and perturbation techniques.
Andrea Nobili received his Ph.D. in Material Engineering in 2002 at Modena University, where he became Researcher in 2008 and subsequently Associate Professor in Solid Mechanics. He has co-authored 53 papers in International Journals (Scopus) and a University textbook on Dynamics of Structures.
