Der erste Teil mit dem Titel The First Part of Henry the Sixth ist ca. 1589-90 entstanden, die beiden anderen als The First Part of the Contention of the Two Famous Houses of York and Lancaster und The True Tragedy of Richard Duke of York and the Good King Henry the Sixth ca. 1590-92.
