Clifford Herschel Moore (1866–1931) was an esteemed American classicist and historian of religion whose scholarly work spanned the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Moore graduated from Harvard University in 1889 and then further pursued his studies in classical philology at the University of Munich. Moore served as a professor of Latin at the University of Chicago before returning to Harvard University, where he became the Pope Professor of Latin in 1909.
