J. B. Bury (1861–1927) was an Irish historian and classical scholar. He was a professor at Trinity College and Cambridge University, where he authored many important works. Scholarly yet accessible, his books include This History of the Later Roman Empire, The Life of St. Patrick and His Place in History, and A History of Freedom of Thought.
