James Claire Vander Kam (1946), doctor por la Universidad de Harvard (1976), es profesor emérito de Escrituras hebreas en la Universidad de Notre Dame (Indiana, EE.UU.).
Las áreas de interés de Vander Kam son la historia y la literatura del judaísmo primitivo y las Escrituras hebreas. Sus investigaciones de los últimos 30 años se han centrado en los Rollos del Mar Muerto y la literatura relacionada con ellos.
Como miembro del comité editorial que preparó la publicación de los rollos, editó trece volúmenes de la serie “Discoveries in the Judaean Desert”. Es uno de los dos jefes de redacción de la Encyclopedia of the Dead Sea Scrolls (2000). Su obra The Dead Sea Scrolls Today (1994, 2ª ed. 2010) se ha traducido a seis idiomas. Fue editor del Journal of Biblical Literature entre 2006 y 2012.
