He interrogates well-known works from Boas, Whyte, Fabian, Geertz, Marcus, and Clifford, as well as less celebrated researchers, addressing methodological concerns from ethnographers’ reliance on assistants in the formative days of the discipline to contemporary comparative issues and fieldwork and writing strategies.
