Running can and should be fun. As a runner of over twenty years (and a deep-diving nerd on the subject), author Sarah Austin Casson shares her best tricks and tips on how to get started running–and enjoy yourself.
In this gentle 3-month training plan, Casson takes you from walking thirty minutes to running three miles. The goal here isn’t no pain, no gain, fast mile paces, or marathon completions, but instead, is to develop a new way to play and move your body: Running.
Casson knows that many of us are used to thinking of running as punishment, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With this book, she’ll hold your hand along the way as you build your running capabilities over time.
Instead of getting stuck with common beginner-runner problems, falling down internet rabbit holes or looking to questionable forum postings on how to get started running, you can turn to this book. It contains everything you might need to know about getting started running–the gear, knowledge, and training plan. And it does so by gently holding your hand in a friendly, encouraging way.
If you’ve ever been curious about running or want to get back into moving your body in an enjoyable way, this book is for you!

Sarah Austin Casson is a runner and environmental anthropologist who has helped countless others to become runners. She firmly believes the point of running is to have fun. Running lets Casson wander new places and discover familiar ones. It has brought her new friends and deepened relationships with old ones. Casson has run (and worked) all over the world. She has worked with farmers, wilderness rangers, policymakers, scientists, and others to look at some of our gnarliest problems: climate change, collapsed prehistoric societies, wilderness conservation, and more. She’s interested in how we interact with one another and the natural environment, how we conceptualize our worlds, and what it means to exist in the nuances our world demands. You’ll find her eating delicious food in dense cities and goofing around in remote wildernesses. She’s climbed volcanoes, summited mountains, dived deep into the oceans, and traversed jungles. Wherever she travels, her running shoes always come along. She can be found online at: Sarah Austin Casson.com
