Pharmaziestudium an der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. 1993 Abschluss der Promotion über phenolische Inhaltstoffe von Braunalgen. Anschließend einjähriger Aufenthalt am NRC-Institut in Halifax, Kanada. Ab 1994 Aufbau einer eigenen Arbeitsgruppe mit dem Schwerpunkt Biosensorik, 1999 Habilitation in Bonn. 2003 Ruf auf eine Professur für Bioanalytik an die Philipps-Universität Marburg. Derzeit Dekan des Fachbereichs Pharmazie, Beauftragter für den internationalen Studentenaustausch, Mitglied der Arzneibuchkommission (HAB).
