Adolphus William Ward studied in Germany and Cambridge, becoming a history and English literature professor in Manchester in 1866. Less than ten years later he published the significant work, History of English Dramatic Literature to the Age of Queen Anne. Ward is also the biographer of Dickens, in the English Men of Letters eBook series.
