The Battle of Gaugamela (in Greek: Γαυγάμηλα) took place in 331 BC between Alexander ‘The Great’ and Darius III of Persia. The battle, which is also called the Battle of Arbelas, resulted in a huge victory for the Greeks and led to the fall of the Achaemenid Empire. The numerical advantage of Darius army was relative, only twice, nothing unusual for the military doctrine of the 20th century, on the contrary, even small, if we consider the need for at least 3 x 1 for the main action. In terms of quality, generally speaking, the Persians had an advantage in mounted systems (cavalry, chariots and elephants) and a disadvantage in foot systems. In the historical simulation, the hypothesis will be considered whether it would have been possible for the Persians, being strategically defensive, to have been, mainly because of the favorable terrain, tactically offensive.
