A product of Purdue University and Princeton University, where he was a member of the Triangle Club and cofounded its annual musical comedy, Tarkington’s literary career spanned several decades throughout the early 20th century. He emerged as a leading literary figure, twice receiving the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for his novels ‘The Magnificent Ambersons’ (1918) and ‘Alice Adams’ (1921).
