Charles Dudley Warner (1829–1900) was an American essayist, novelist, and co-author, most famously known for his collaboration with Mark Twain on ‘The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today’ (1873). Born on September 12, 1829, in Plainfield, Massachusetts, Warner grew up in Charlemont, Massachusetts, and later studied at Hamilton College in New York. He displayed a keen intellect which manifested in a versatile career; Warner was not just a writer, but also a lawyer, and an editor for the ‘Hartford Courant’.
