My reason for writing this book was to have something to do after I got fired from C.W. Post. It was one in a long line of failed jobs over the years. The theme of luck grew out of the fact that through all the job losses there was Millie, my wife, and how having her in my life was a stroke of luck. All the things that happen in your life, good and bad, have a tinge of luck attached to them. By putting things into perspective I was able to cope with what was going on in my life and make peace with it. Ultimately this book is about luck; what it is and how it affects the way one handles life. I was able pour my feelings out and express what I was going through each and every day I was out of work. Writing is a good way to reflect on your life and to examine what role you have in how your life is going. I hope you find it funny as well as poignant and maybe you’ll find some good luck in your life after reading it.

I was born a poor black and white child in New York City on August 24th, 1962 to Simeon and Jessica Wright. I grew up in NYC, Brooklyn, Queens and Huntington. It’s weird writing about yourself but, I’ll press on. My parents divorced when I was still a baby so, I never knew them as husband and wife. I lived with my mom until I was three, my paternal grandmother until I was seven, my mother again until I was 13, and my father until I graduated from high school. I don’t know if moving around had a negative impact on my life but, I managed to plow through. I was not the best the student and I got into some trouble but never enough to go to jail. Therapy yes, jail no. I graduated from high school, college and grad school so, I did okay on the education front. As for my grownup life I am a husband and father and I work for the Board of Elections of Nassau County. I was on the Board of Education for the Locust Valley School District and I am currently the President of the North Oyster Bay Democratic Club.
