The hazardous invasion of the golden mussel and other pests
– health risks for the population and the economy of Brazil
The spread of exotic species is historical and it has been growing, because the oceans and the seas are the main routes for global trade and transportation. The invasion of exotic species is considered the second worst cause of ecosystem destruction. Therefore, it affects the number and quality of jobs, the production and the cost of energy, food production and the volume and quality of water – all of which have consequences which warn us of the risk of environmental disasters and, consequently, social and economic collapse.
‘This issue can only be disregarded by those who don’t know about it’, said the awarded journalist and environmentalist Dorinha Aguiar. According to her, Governments and populations need to be sensitized on the importance of preventing the dissemination of exotic species, including those coming from the ocean. The golden mussel is just one example of destruction by the invasion of exotic species and can become a driver for the development of international guidelines for the biodiversity protection.’
Giới thiệu về tác giả
Multifaceted: so you can set the activities of Dorinha Aguiar. Journalist, writer, publisher, environmentalists are some of these. All are present in the impetuosity for the quick response, selflessness by trying to look at the world through the eyes of the other, the research for the truth, trying to see all sides of the facts and the belief that individual success is causally related to the formation and effort of each.
Paradoxically, his works not only reflect their idiosyncrasies. Viewed more closely, one realizes that Dorinha goes further. Among tireless research for truth (or truths), respect for the adversarial principle, and discipline, she discovered her vocation to journalism.
Its openness to new challenges and the demand for different skills herself did Dorinha Aguiar attend simultaneously two different schools to the UFMG, Journalism and Letters. At the time she was still two small children which increased its responsibility and concern for their lives.
It seems that life always wanted Dorinha Aguiar dedicating themselves in various actions. But it is as it is. Since 1997, the very Dorinha is the publisher of his books. They are now 16 published. Whatever it is , children’s stories, with important themes for education, ecology, philosophy and literature; or historical research, recording oral history and biographies, everything invites us to see well beyond the first reading.
