Lucy, engaged to the stuffy Cecil Vyse, is simultaneously repelled by and attracted to George, and struggles to reconcile her feelings. The subject of an award-winning 1985 film adaptation by Merchant Ivory, and one of Modern Library’s top 100 english-language novels of the 20th century.
