Gerdt Bernhard von Bassewitz-Hohenluckow nasceu em 4 de janeiro de 1878, em Allewind. Filho de um alto funcionário público prussiano da nobreza de Mecklenburg, ele foi tenente no serviço prussiano, um escritor e ator alemão, que ficou conhecido pelo seu conto de fadas ‘A viagem de Pedrinho à Lua’. Bassewitz também escreveu dramas no estilo expressionista, mas não obtiveram muito sucesso. O autor faleceu em 6 de fevereiro de 1923, em Berlim.
