Les 12 Ricercate pour violoncelle sont parus à Bologne en 1687. Il est possible qu’une partie d’entre eux constituent la basse de Ricercate per il violino, et que d’autre soient des pièces pour violoncelle solo.
Ils constituent une oeuvre importante dans la littérature pour violoncelle seul de l’époque baroque, avec les ‘Ricercari’ de Domenico Gabrieli (1689), les ‘Sonate’ de Domenico Galli (1691) et les ‘Sonate’ de Giuseppe Jacchini (entre 1690 et 1697).
