Firstvolume in the series Leuven Studies in Mission and Modernity Missionaries have been subject to academic andsocietal debate. Some scholars highlight their contribution to the spread ofmodernity and development among local societies, whereas others question theirmotives and emphasise their inseparable connection with colonialism.
