Heather Gordon is an artist, author and gardener. Heather’s productive, flower filled garden is home to chooks and bees. Heather writes and collages what she knows – chooks, gardening and travel adventures. Heather’s ten year plan to transform the exterior of her ordinary cream brick home into an extraordinary mosaic haven is now complete (2010 – 2020). Heather is transitioning from Mosaic to Collage; repurposing and recycling while recreating and reinventing. Heather’s five year plan is to create with Collage as well as writing and publishing children’s stories. ‘Barossa Nanna and the Lonely Chook’ (2014) was Heather’s first published book. It gently deals with grief and loss in a way that children can understand. ‘Barossa Nanna and the Chook Collage’ featured chooks and gardens and was the first of the Collage books created in self-isolation during COVID-19, 2020. ‘Barossa Nanna and the Fantasy Flower Collage 11-20’ is Heather’s third counting collage for children. Heather has worked extensively in rural and remote regions of Australia. Heather’s love of the Australian landscape is reflected in her photography, mosaics and Collage. ‘As I self-isolate in my house at Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, I am Collaging my way through COVID-19. I find Collage to be calming; taking my mind off the pain and negative thoughts of dealing with an autoimmune disease.’ ‘Thank you to Alison Bell and Barry Stutley for leaving paint colour swatches in my letterbox; to Julie King and Andrea Hoffman of Croftwood Grove for leaving home baked bread and home grown veggies on my front porch; to Sam Koerner of Beam Internet for high-speed internet and a bag of cow manure for my garden; to Melanie Little for proofreading; to all the health professionals for their support, especially Nurse Bernie and GP Christine Hoff.
