Marie-Hélène Mathieu founded Faith and Light with Jean Vanier. Having been touched by the isolation and distress of parents, she had already begun the Christian Office for Persons with Disabilities (OCH) in 1963 and the magazine Ombres et Lumière in 1968.
Jean Vanier founded Faith and Light with Marie-Hélène Mathieu. In 1964, he began the communities of l’Arche where persons with and without intellectual disabilities share life together in community through mutual relationships and trust in God.
