Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, Bangs attended Columbia College (now Columbia University) where he earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree. His early career saw him in various editorial roles including working for Harper’s Magazine, Life, and Puck, some of which were leading humor publications of the time. Bangs’s writing is characterized by its wit, whimsy, and the playful application of satire.
