Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873) was an Irish writer known for his gothic horror and mystery tales. His most famous work, Carmilla (1872), is one of the earliest vampire stories that influenced later literature. Throughout his career, he also wrote supernatural and psychological stories, known for their dark atmosphere and exploration of the unsettling. Although he did not gain much recognition during his lifetime, he is now considered one of the great masters of the horror genre.
