My name is Karen M. Haynes. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but partially grew up in Columbus, Ohio. I graduated from Linden Mc Kinley High School. I grew up a military dependent. My dad, Duey Haynes, was a retired army soldier. He wanted me to attend college. If I chose the military, he wanted it to be the air force or navy. I never really thought of a military career. I just wanted to become a journalist or news reporter. I considered myself in the middle. I wasn’t sought out by colleges. By no means did anyone offer me an educational grant. At the same time, I knew that I wanted and deserved to be more than a negative statistic. I did indeed have a deep desire to make a great contribution to the world. I secretly had dreams of doing something or accomplishing something that I could be proud of.
