Anna Karenina is the heroine of the novel who seems to have fallen in ‘true’ love while having an extra marital affair but at the same time is also disgusted by herself when her husband shows towards her at certain point of time. It is the dilemmas faced by her as she questions herself for her thoughts and actions that forms the essence of the story and how the society by large is responsible for shaping one’s ideals and ethics.
