The story is about Michael, a boy diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. It starts when he is six and takes you through the stages. The disease starts to cause some physical weakness and leads to use of a wheelchair. On the joy-side, he was a big brother and was surrounded by his loving sisters. Their energy kept him going. Through his struggles and frustrations, he always smiled. He used positive energy to get through. He was given the greatest quality of life to keep moving forward. Then there are the experiences of the mother being a foster child in care with no support or family to be there. The reality of dealing with the condition of Michael, financial hardships, working and going to school full-time. The obstacles of Michael having this condition created many struggles, disappointments, and sadness with sprinkles of joy.

Trea Jackson has been writing since the age of 7 when she discovered her passion while being in foster care and this became her way of coping on her journey. She graduated from Roosevelt University with a BA/MA in Psychology. Trea published her first book, In the Innocent Eyes of a Child in 2004. The first book of the book series, The Innocent Eyes of a Child in 2021. Has been a Social Worker for the Illinois Department of Human Services for 10 years.
