Giới thiệu về tác giả

Xenophon (circa 430-354 BCE) was an ancient Greek historian, soldier, mercenary, and a disciple of Socrates. Although he himself did not partake in the Peloponnesian War, his historical accounts are often cited alongside those of his contemporary, Thucydides, who provided the primary historical record of the conflict in his work ‘History of the Peloponnesian War.’ However, Xenophon is most renowned for his work ‘Anabasis’, detailing the expedition of Cyrus the Younger against the Persian king and the subsequent ‘March of the Ten Thousand’ Greek soldiers. This work remains a valuable source on Greek military tactics and the geography of the Near East. Other significant contributions by Xenophon to literature include ‘Hellenica’, which continues Thucydides’s narrative of the Peloponnesian War, ‘Cyropaedia’, a partly fictional biography of Cyrus the Great, and ‘Memorabilia’, a collection of Socratic dialogues. Xenophon’s works provide a blend of philosophical reflection, historical narrative, and practical advice on leadership and management, showcasing a versatile literary style that oscillates between didactic treatises and engaging storytelling. His writings have been influential not only in the field of history but also in the development of philosophical memoir and leadership studies, and remain subjects of scholarly analysis and admiration to this day.
