with the state of the science, presenting the basics, formulation
strategies, and therapeutic applications of advanced drug delivery.
The book demonstrates how core concepts of pharmaceutical sciences,
chemistry, and molecular biology can be combined and applied in
order to spark novel ideas to design and develop advanced drug
delivery systems for the treatment of a broad range of human
diseases.
Advanced Drug Delivery features contributions from an
international team of pharmaceutical scientists. Chapters reflect a
thorough review and analysis of the literature as well as the
authors’ firsthand experience developing drug delivery systems. The
book is divided into four parts:

ASHIM K. MITRA, Ph D, is Chairman of Pharmaceutical
Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Mitra is
also a University of Missouri Curators’ Professor and has more than
thirty years of experience in the field of ocular drug delivery and
disposition. He has been the recipient of research awards from the
NIH, AAPS, AACP, ARVO, and other pharmaceutical organizations.
CHI H. LEE, Ph D, is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences
at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he teaches
undergraduate and graduate pharmacy courses. His research focuses
on elucidation of pathological mechanisms and formulation
development of microbicidal and cardiovascular devices.
KUN CHENG, Ph D, is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical
Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His research
seeks to develop novel drug delivery systems for si RNA and small
molecule drugs. Dr. Cheng is the recipient of the 2011 American
Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) New Investigator
Grant Award in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technologies.
